The ABS system becomes even

slimmer and lighter

ABS is presenting its new products for the 2014/15 winter season at ISPO 2014. All Base Units with the integrated TwinBag system are now even flatter, slimmer and therefore lighter than ever before. Complete with carbon cartridge, activation handle and pack, the lightest ABS model weighs in at less than 2.4kg. The Zip-ons for the Vario and Powder lines have been completely revamped, revealing a new look with revised dimensions and smart division of compartments. More cooperations with well-known backpack manufacturers have also been announced: joining the ranks of existing partners, in 2014/15, the new "ABS Inside Partners" Deuter and Vaude will be installing the ABS system, tried and tested on hundreds of occasions, in their backpacks. Three new "ABS Compatible Partners" will also be widening the selection of packs.

Many years of experience and innovative product developments, such as the "ABS TwinBag" dual airbag system (the only one of its kind in the world), make ABS the technology leader in the avalanche airbag sector. The airbag specialist from Gräfelfing near Munich is presenting its latest developments at ISPO 2014.

Optimized Base Units, Vario "Silver Edition" now compatible with a protector

The ABS Vario and Powder line Base Units have been further optimized, making them lighter and slimmer than ever before. Fully equipped, the lightest ABS model (Powder Base Unit including carbon cartridge, activation handle and new Powder 8L Zip-on) weighs just over 2.370g, with the lightest Vario model weighing 2.440g.

The Powder Base Unit has been completely revamped and, thanks to the new back pad shape, ergonomic shoulder straps and close-fitting neoprene hip strap, also offers an excellent fit for women and young people. From 2014/15, it will also be available as a Powder Base Unit "Blue Edition", a real eye-catcher in a striking ocean blue color.

The popular Vario Base Unit will continue to be supplied in two back lengths (S and L). It is available as the classic black Vario Base Unit as well as a limited "Silver Edition".

The Vario line "Silver Edition" impresses with its high-quality look and close-fitting neoprene hip strap, promising exceptional comfort. For the 2014/15 season, it is now "Protector-compatible", allowing it to be equipped with a certified Soft back protector from Komperdell if required.

All Zip-ons fully revised

The Vario and Powder line Zip-ons have all been completed updated, launching optimized features and a new Y-design for 2014/15. The backpack shape and division of compartments have been completely revamped. New sizes provide an even wider selection and greater flexibility.

The Vario line packs are available in the sizes of 8L, 18L, 24L, 32L and 45+5L and can be zipped onto all Vario Base Units. The new, and now smallest, Vario Zip-on with a volume of 8L is so flat that it does not need to be removed on a ski lift. The new Vario 24L pack is a real all-rounder. Big enough for smaller ski tours and yet comfortable and flat enough for freeriding. For those who prefer longer tours lasting several days, there is now the new Vario 45+5L Zip-on.

The intelligent division of compartments allows, from a volume of 24L upwards, skins, a drinking bottle, valuables, a map, sunglasses and more to be arranged in separate compartments. A separate emergency compartment, a ski mount (diagonal in the 18L, 24L and 32L models, lateral in the 45+5L version) as well as a snowboard and snowshoe mount, an ice ax mount and the new compression option on the base round off the new Vario Zip-on.

The Powder line Zip-ons have a completely new look and are available in the sizes of 8L, 15L and a new 26L version. In comparison with previous years, the Powder line now includes a larger 26L Zip-on, ideal for touring and incorporating a wide selection of handy new compartments.

Trustworthy cooperation: new ABS partners

ABS has accumulated more than 25 years' experience in the avalanche airbag sector. Some of the best-known outdoor companies rely on the 'made in Germany' quality of the ABS TwinBag system, tried and tested on hundreds of occasions. In previous seasons, Salewa, The North Face, Bergans, Dakine, Haglöfs and Ortovox have integrated the ABS system in their field-tested backpacks. From the 2014/15 winter season, their number will be boosted by the arrival of Vaude and Deuter, two renowned backpack specialists.

In future, there will be even more on offer as regards individual requirements in the selection of packs from other manufacturers that can be easily zipped onto the ABS® system. With Berghaus, Burton and Osprey presenting their own ABS-compatible Zip-ons for the first time at ISPO 2014. Together with existing cooperation partners, Arva, Atomic, Dakine, Dynastar, Evoc, Head, Millet, Mountain Hardwear, Quiksilver, Rossignol and Salomon, this now makes a total of 14 backpack manufacturers offering ABS system-compatibility.
