The Silver Edition is the new jewel in

the crown for ABS avalanche

For the winter season 2013/14, ABS will once again prove its innovation leadership. With the ABS Vario line SILVER EDITION, ABS is setting new standards; the proven product lines also score highly with optimized features, e.g. a new ski mount. New sizes and colors for the zip-ons, as well as increased cooperation with renowned backpack manufacturers, offer freeriders and ski tourers even more options.

Many years of experience and innovative product developments, such as the "ABS TwinBag" dual airbag system (the only one of its kind in the world), make ABS the technology leader in the avalanche airbag sector. The airbag specialist from Munich, Germany presents its latest developments.

The new ABS Vario line SILVER EDITION combines the advantages of both ABS product lines: Vario and Powder. The system's high level of comfort, innovative features and new look are impressive. A neoprene hip belt and an ergonomic shoulder strap with no inner seam ensure that it fits and sits perfectly. The adjustable handle plate guarantees easy access to the activation handle in the event of an emergency and is also available for left-handed users. The SILVER Base Unit comes with a steel activation unit and a trendy cover, which offers space for emergency avalanche equipment. Alternatively, it can be combined with Vario and Ultralight zip-ons (8 l, 15 l, 18 l and 30 l).

ABS scores highly on functionality and design – 2013/14 is going to be full of color!

The optimized features and fresh designs for the 2013/14 Vario and Powder line zip-ons are impressive. The ski mount has been fundamentally revamped and a diagonal, body-fitting bias offers optimum comfort. The helmet mount has also been redesigned and is now a nondetachable feature of all Vario and Powder zip-ons; on the Ultralight zipons, on the other hand, it remains detachable.

ABS also leaves nothing to be desired for the 2013/14 season as far as design is concerned. While the color palette for the 15 l and 30 l zip-ons has been expanded to include yellow-green and dark blue-orange, the Powder line features brand new threads: the Powder zip-ons are now available in black-orange, green-red and raspberry-blue. The popular black-orange color combination is available for every zip-on model in 2013/14; this season, the Ultralight packs are also available in silver-orange and blue-grey.

Vario zip-ons in new colors and sizes

In addition to the new SILVER EDITION, ABS is expanding its Vario line with three new sizes of zip-ons. The Ultralight 8 l is the ideal companion for demanding minimalists. It can be combined with the Vario Base Unit or the new SILVER Base Unit and is available in three colors. The new Vario 30 l is perfect for single-day tours (five colors). The Vario 40 l zip-on is the ideal companion for those who believe that size matters. This pack also offers sufficient space for multi-day tours. Those who need more space can go for the Vario 55 l. As with the other Vario line zip-ons, the Vario 40 l and 55 l (2 colors) are compatible with the Vario Base Unit.

Trustworthy cooperation: new ABS partners

Some well-known backpack and outdoor specialists are benefiting from more than 25 years' experience and leading innovation in the avalanche airbag sector. In addition to The North Face and Salewa, Ortovox, Haglöfs, Bergans and Dakine have now integrated the ABS® system into their field-tested backpacks.

In future, there will be even more on offer as regards individual requirements in the selection of packs that can be easily zipped onto the ABS® system. In addition to Arva, Dakine and Evoc, this year's ISPO will see Atomic, Head, Mountain Hardwear, Quiksilver and Salomon introduce their own compatible zip-ons for the first time.

ABS TwinBag® for life

For avalanche experts the main priority for people caught up in an avalanche is to avoid being buried. A quick tug on the ABS® TwinBag® activation handle is all it takes to instantly inflate two airbags with a total volume of 170 liters. This extra volume will almost certainly prevent the wearer from being buried. The two ABS® TwinBags are positioned at the side of the body, keeping the avalanche victim as flat as possible on top of the avalanche, creating a dynamically shaped lifting surface. Compared with mono airbags, this generates a much greater lifting effect precisely where it is needed the most – in the critical avalanche run-out zone. The two separate airbags make the system twice as reliable, with clear lines of sight and complete freedom of movement even after the airbags are activated. After all, you can only help your companions if you are not buried yourself. The results of the studies speak volumes in support of the ABS® TwinBag® system: Out of 262 people who activated their ABS® avalanche airbag, 97% survived and 84% of them were uninjured.*
